Few federal garbage fires burn as brightly as Veterans Affairs hospitals. The throughly dysfunctional way medical care is provided to U.S. veterans has been one of the few points of agreement among Democrats and Republicans in recent years. Fixing the broken system was one of President Donald Trump’s signature campaign promises.

The problem came into stark relief with a photo from a Veterans Affairs hospital in Durham, North Carolina that was shared on Facebook by Hanna McMenamin. Since it was posted Saturday, the image, and accompanying description, have been shared more than 110,000 times.

Yesterday (2/24/17) while at the Durham, NC VA Hospital, my husband Stephen McMenamin and I witnessed some very disturbing events. The man in the wheelchair on the left, were waiting in that waiting room at least 3 hours. The man bent over grabbing the chair, was yelling in pain and was borderline convulsing and almost falling out of his chair he was in so much pain. No one paid him any attention until I approached a nurse to please check on him. This gentleman sat in the waiting room in extreme pain for hours upon hours with very little attention paid to him.

McMenamin accused staff of being callous and unresponsive to the man’s concerns.

McMenamin was unavailable for comment Tuesday, but in an update to her original post, said that the Department of Veterans Affairs had reached out to her and demanded she remove the post.

For their part, the VA reaffirmed their commitment to veterans.

“It is an honor to serve America’s heroes and actions that do not align with our core values will not be tolerated,” DeAnne Seekins, the director of the medical center said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press. “We pride ourselves on providing the highest quality care to the Veterans we serve and being responsive to our patient’s needs. Veterans deserve nothing less.”

  1. The Department of Veteran Affairs (DVA) demanded that the picture be removed, or legal action would be taken (obviously!).
Were does the DVA get the audacity from to demand that proof of wrongs are kept from the public?

In the picture shown there is an individual laying on the floor, without being attended to! What is that man doing on the floor? As far as I can observe the man is a veteran, and he is laying on the ground, for crying out loud!
Why is the DVA demanding, or even requesting to remove the picture?

The Department of Veteran Affairs is a scam, a disgraceful bunch of incompetent idiots who do nothing for Veterans!
The Veteran hospitals that are treating Veterans this way must be corrected, punished, and when needed closed! The individuals governing these Veteran Hospitals that are doing nothing for the Veterans MUST be dismissed from their task, fired and thrown out without any pay, pension or benefit!

Let me make one thing very clear, I am opposed to wars, to sending men and women into war BUT the moment our soldiers return to the country, wounded or hurt, or suffering from whatever syndrome, there MUST be properly and adequately cared for and given the treatment, to get better, to receive the care they deserve as the ones who fought the battles the cowards behind the desks failed to fight!

A Department that fails in this DUTY is rotten and filth, and is unworthy to be referred to as an institution of the American People!
Veteran Hospitals that fail in their DUTY to provide all the possible care and treatments to those who were wounded and hurt in what way ever for the Freedoms we hold sacred are closely monitored and observed, and when there is no improvement these Veteran Hospitals MUST be closed, without delay and any discussion!

It is the responsibility of the American People to take care of the Veterans, and NO Veteran should be suffering by the incompetence and or negligence by Staff, Doctors, Nurses, Board of a Veteran Hospital!

We, the People of the United States of America are responsible and accountable, and we, the People are the ones who have sent out these people we refer to as Veterans but obviously are not interested in when they return to the USA, having been in circumstances that the majority of these young men and women had no idea of existing or possible!

It is a total and complete disgrace and utterly shameful thing to accept that even one single Veteran is left alone, is left in pain, is not cared for as should be done, and We, the People are the ones who really MUST stand up for those in full and total defense of their utmost well-being!

Failing Veteran Hospitals are unacceptable, and all who condone Veteran Hospitals to fail are complicit to every Veteran suffering!
